The second cycle of training of trainers for work-based learning has began

April 4, 2018, in “Latvian Railway” educational centre started the second training cycle for practitioners from companies and vocational education institutions within the European Union Erasmus + KA3 activity project “TTT4WBL -Testing New Approaches to Training VET and Workplace Tutors for Work-Based Learning” implemented by the National Centre for Education in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education of Latvia and partners from the Baltic countries and Finland.

In cooperation with coaches Vita Žunda and Diāna Krastiņa, the railway industry specialists learned practical methods and pedagogical techniques for providing support to the learner in work-based learning (WBL) and how to build collaboration between the educational institution and enterprise in organizing WBL. The method has been given the name of ‘tandem training’.
In the conclusion, the participants welcomed the opportunity not only to acquire new knowledge, but also to exchange experience among participants.

Courses are a great opportunity, we hear what the school has to say, what are their questions of what they are interested in and how we can work together better. Now, I understand that cooperation is more important than I had imagined before. The main benefit is that the two parties meet in order to better educate their vocational educators about what they expect from the company. The experience of the course will allow to achieve much better results,” tells Antonija Kokina, “Latvia Railway” Senior Education Specialist.

The greatest benefit of the courses is that we can bring together both teachers and practitioners to discuss topical issues in implementing WBL. In these courses, we addressed a variety of situations, both in terms of learning process and communication between school, business and student,” comments Nadježda Lauhina, Riga Technical College professional education teacher.

Participants not only acquire new knowledge and skills, but also undertake research under the management of researchers from the University of Jyväskylä, in order to find out the impact of joint learning on the quality of practice and the more effective collaboration between the school and the company.

Altogether 11 workshops are planned this year in Riga and regions, where leaders from different fields of practice from schools and companies will take part. At the same time, under the second cycle, joint training takes place in Lithuania and Estonia.
