The 28th annual conference of the European Forum of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (EfVET) was held in October 23-26 in Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal with more than 300 participants from EU VET sector – governments and VET institutions. The topic of the conference was “Robots, Human Capital and Digital Learning. Managing Transition and Inclusion”. During the plenary session speakers from CEDEFOP, UNESCO, EC, EUROCHAMBRES highlighted the future competencies – the ability to learn and invest in digitization. Key topics of the conference: Educational Institutions – Enterprise Collaboration, Internationalization of Vocational Training, Digital Learning, Apprenticeship, Industrial Revolution, Future Workplace and Key Competencies. Working in groups on these topics revealed participants’ fears about robotization and job losses. According to A. Abruzzini, director of Eurochambres, vocational schools are not capable of preparing the right staff for companies because they do not know what kind of job they are preparing for, so the main ability needed for future is the ability to learn. These ideas go in line with the individual approach in training: flexible teaching methods must become a priority for educational institutions.
During the presentation of EfVET community projects, the project TTT4WBL was presented by Aušra Misonė (Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts) to more than 50 conference participants. Round table participants expressed their interest about the project, especially as a good outcome for cooperation of VET and companies. German representatives encouraged to continue with initiatives for work based learning in Baltic countries. Representatives from the Qualifications Framework Secretariat in Hong Kong expressed interest in using the project training material.
One of the main aims of the conference is the networking of participants, so more than half of the participants heard about the experience and results of the TTT4WBL project during networking activities: workshops, team meetings, non-formal events. Information about the project was also available in the conference materials and on Efvet.app, which was created especially for the conference.
